Hall Writer: Gordon Lightfoot 18 Moonlight Lover All credits the same as # 1 Songs in the Key of Dancehall is a somewhat exploratory album from the point of view of the number of dancehall rhythms used and how much of the actual music is played by me. The the idea of the combination of dancehall rhythms coupled with strong melodic cover songs came from Errol ‘Willo’ Wilson, my co-producer, co-writer and co-reproducer (smile). We had intended for it to be a purely cover album but a few originals sneaked their way unto the project. The response to the first single, ‘Broken Hearted Melody’ was very powerful, surprising a number of people – radio djs and fellow musicians and many fans who were shocked at the perfect fit of hard core riddim and classic standard. It went on to hit the number one spot on many charts throughout North America with New York and Miami being the premiere ones. Big up Clinton Lindsay, DJ Roy, TK Smith an di teacha, Jeff Sarge. In fact, it was while, doing an impromptu interview with Clinton Lindsay and playing some of the tracks for him and seeing the response of the callers that we really got confirmation that this was a good idea. It was the same response in New York. The current single, ‘Moonlight Lover’/’Outa Aada’ has been doing quite well. By the time you’re reading this there should be a video out. Special thanks to Lloyd ‘Guitsy’ Willis for allowing us to take all kinds of liberties with ‘Moonlight Lover. Nuff big ups and thanks to Skatta Burrel for allowing us to mess with his monster ‘Coolie Dance’ riddim. Nuff respect to Vybes Kartel with his ‘up to di time’. We didn’t know that it was you at the time but we liked how you sounded - one of life’s happy accidents. U Roy, you are one of the great influences of Jamaican music. Raspec! Sly, you are a major rhythmic and personal inspiration. Keep on keeping on. To all a mi engineer bredren dem: Rory, Bulby, Fatta, Gibby, Dwight, Sly, Michael Gayle, Courtney Panton, S. Isiam, Derek Barnett. Please note that the list of engineers contains a number of noted musicians. They did indeed do quite a bit of engineering work on this project. As a matta a fac mi was one a di engineer dem to. I still am completely mystified by the computer. Its like a big monster toy that does all these magical things. I did in fact record musicians, lay riddims and take voices so I guess I’m an engineer of some sort, right?!! Many, many, many thanks to Lloyd ‘Obeah’ Denton, Charmaine Bowman, Sly Dunbar, Robbie Lyn, Scatta Burrell, Dave Kelly, Leebert ‘Gibby’ Morrison, John Williams, Derek Barnett, Courtney Panton, Ricky Myrie, Lloyd Campbell, Jason Sterling, Robbie Drummie Special thanks to Lady Saw (a genuine talent which I recognized long time before she buss. A lang time mi know har, yu kno); Frankie Paul (simply awesome singer/musician/performer); Sure Shot (a yu a di big man!!), Nesbeth, hole tight!! It was a great pleasure having you guys with me on this project. How many artistes can boast of having the unique priviledge of having their mother and daughter singing on a song with them? (Hey Akil, don’t feel left out. You did it for me long ago an we ago do it again). Mommy, Taf, Sherece Pitters and Yaneka Mason, ‘Blessing’ is what it is because of your participation. Thanks a million! Liu Ayton, the budding genius, you did this when you were about one and a half years old and you are only four now but thanks for making my project your debut. The world waits for you, my yout. Reeka, gwaan mash up di school work. Rey Rey, my yout, respect. A you run tings pan di New York ends. Willo, big up every time. A you a di gas inna di engine. gg
